After awhile, the cords on your window are going to break. But, with a little time and knowledge, you can figure out how to change a broken cord on a sash window all by yourself. To do the job, you’ll need some nails, a flat head screw driver, putty knife, and small pry bar available to you.

The first step will be to remove the interior stop. Use the putty knife to pry it open or unscrew it. Next, move the inner sash out the way carefully. The cords fit into stile grooves, which are vertical pieces inside the frame, and they are held in place with knots. Carefully pull these free and set the weights down. A good idea is to clean out this area of any dirt before reassembling it.

You have to pull of the parting strip next. They’re connected to the jambs, with are the upright supports in the frame. You might have to deal with nails when doing this, so be careful. You’ll have to move the upper sash out of your way before you can remove the cords.

The weight pockets must be taken out next. This involves taking off the weather stripping first. Access to the weight pockets should be behind small plates at near the bottom of the jambs. If not, they are behind the interior casing on both sides of the window. In either case, remove the pieces and get the sash weights.

Be sure to measure out the new cords before you replace them and cut the to the right length. Untie the old ones and add the new ones by sending them over the pulleys and then into the weights. Each weight has an eye, which a small bar you can loop the string around. Tie it off here. You can also use wire to help keep it in place.

You can make it a little easier on yourself by nailing the weights to the frame. Pull the weight up to the top of their pockets before you do. Now take the outer cords and attach them to their slots with a screw. Put the plates and weather stripping back and then replace the parting strip. You can take out the nails now. You next have to lift sash and tie the strings to the inner sash then put the whole thing back together.

It’s recommended to go ahead and replace all the strings while you have it open, so that you don’t have to do this again for a while. You can opt to use chains instead of string if you want. In the long run, doing it yourself will be cheaper than having a professional do it.

No matter what sort of sash window repairs London residents require, it is as close as an Internet search. You can learn how to achieve sash cord repairs using local professionals and technicians.

Having a set routine for your household chores and duties can seem a bit boring, but it saves a lot of stress and the build up of mess and clutter. Keeping your house in order can become quite stressful if you don’t keep on top of the situation, especially if you have a family to look after. To avoid unnecessary stress then it’s well worth coming up with a list of daily tasks. The trick here is little and often!

Get Everyone Involved – If you live in a home with a family, friends, roommates and so on make sure you get everyone involved in the household chores. There is nothing more stressful than coming home from a long day’s work and discovering your work is not over because the cleaning needs to be done and so on. If a home is being shared then the household work should be shared too.

Cleaning Schedule – As with the above, coming up with a cleaning schedule will really help spread the work out between people and also over the week. This will avoid the situation of having to spend all day cleaning. If you can do a little bit every day the cleaning work in your home will instantly become easier. It could be a good idea to work on one area of the house every day. If you need to, why not stick a schedule to the fridge and divide the tasks up between everyone in the home.

Do the Washing Up as You Go – There can be nothing worse than a huge build up of washing up, and I’m sure that everyone has experienced the horror of having to attack a mountain of dishes. The best way to avoid this situation is to clean the dishes as you go along. Have a rule that dishes and pans must be cleaned as soon as they are used. When cooking, try to wash up as you go and that alone will save you a good amount of the work after dinner.

Have a Cooking Rota – When you’ve been busy working five days a week and you have to come home and cook dinner for everyone, it can cut your evening short and be very tiring. To prevent you from having to cook every night it may be an idea to create a rota so you can alternate evenings between other household members.

Fix Problems Quickly – It can be quite hard sometimes to be motivated enough to fix problems as they arise. Life gets busy and soon enough it’s been a few months since you made a mental note to deal with something. The problem here is that if some issues are left unattended, they can develop into something worse and more expensive to fix. The other thing to point out is that more things could go wrong, and whilst one thing might be easy and cheap to fix, a whole group of problems could be a lot worse!

There are two methods of doing laundry, the old one and the new one. It’s sad to know that most people nowadays still practice the old way of performing their laundry task. More often than not, they don’t get the results they desire by doing so. If you want to save time and energy when washing your clothes, you have to try newer methods that have been proven and tested by many.

One of the reasons why working in the laundry is such a boring task is that the wash area itself is not functional for washing clothes. By applying a little bit of your organization skills in the laundry area, you can make things a little less complicated. Instead of waiting for the wash day before you sort clothes out, place a laundry sorter in the house where every family member can place their clothes within the week. That way, when it’s time for you to do the laundry, you’ll just directly wash the clothes without sorting.

If you come to think it, removing stains from clothes can actually eat much of your time. Avoid making the mistake of waiting for the stain to dry and settle in the fabric before you do something about it. If you want to get rid of stain quickly, you also have to act quickly the moment you see a shirt with stain still fresh on it. Make sure to apply stain remover in the front and the back side of the stained spot to effectively remove the stain before washing it in water.

You can also save on time and money by learning how to efficiently make use of detergent. It’s typical to use any kind of washing detergent for any type of load regardless of its size, the stain on the clothes, and the type of the fabric. Nowadays, most appliances indicate that you make use of the right sort of detergent. Using detergent not specified for your machine can ruin both the appliance and your clothes.

Some people think that sticking to a single method of doing laundry makes the task easier to do. This may apply if you’re washing your clothes manually but if you’re using a high-efficiency washing machine, you need to learn to adjust your methods depending on the kind of the load you’re working with. Most washing machines today are designed to work according to load size and adjust so that your clothes are washed efficiently.

It’s okay to stick to some of you traditional laundry methods. However, if you wish to do laundry fast and efficient, it would be best if you learn the modern ways to get the job done. Aside from being a lot less difficult, they are also more cost-efficient.

This writer additionally often gives advice about topics such as the laundry room cabinets and clothes hamper.

When your bedroom is way too chaotic, it might end up with the person beginning to feel just a little anxious. Fortunately it is a challenge that’s simple enough to conquer and here are quite a few suggestions of bedroom design ideas on the way to do it.

Even though we don’t take up an excessive amount of room in a bed when we are sleeping, we still like to feel that the bedroom as a whole is really spacious. It is actually much more an emotional experience than a logic one. With that said, men and women do enjoy having the bedroom as a place where they are able to go to get away from everyone else at times.

One basic approach is to buy some sliding door wardrobes, particularly the mirror wardrobe type. This will give a reflection of the whole room and it will feel much bigger. It is a tactic applied in a number of the major hotels to help make their bedrooms appear larger than they are actually.

A different technique is to change the colour scheme. Dark colorings in the room help it seem a whole lot smaller sized so get out the paintbrush and paint it in some nice pastel shades or maybe white. Switch the duvet covers and put in a few bits of white bedroom accessories. Of course this doesn’t really affect the measurements of the room however it’s recognized that warm colors appear to move towards us while cold colours move away.

Therefore if you ever intend to make any space to become comfortable and warm, get the orange and red tones of decoration.

Another alternative can be to put added lamps in the bedroom. You need not be overly extravagant, merely two or three nice bedroom lamps or a floor lamp in a corner should be nice.

Then examine the wardrobe furniture in the room. Is there too much for what you want? Might you do without a lot of the clothes that you hardly ever use to give back some bedroom space?

Is there a nice spot somewhere in which you could possibly build in a corner wardrobe? You may find that, as soon as you have sent most of the outdated clothing to the charity shop, you are able to make do with only the corner wardrobe on its own.

None of those strategies need be especially costly. There will be loads of online web pages where you are able to pick up a great deal in bedroom furniture. Or get off to your nearby shopping mall and check it out. You may very well be astonished at what you might accomplish.

That way you’ll have a spacious bedroom which you can be satisfied with in which it’ll be a delight to rest not to mention get to sleep.

I am sure that you will be very happy to have a home that smells nice. It will be a pleasure to have friends around then.

Have you ever been out to other people’s houses and thought that the air there smelt nice and fresh and healthy whilst at home there always seemed to be different kinds of nasty smells? Let us try to help your house one to be proud of as well.

Possibly one of the most difficult areas to keep smelling fresh is the kitchen as a lot of cooking can produce obnoxious smells.

After you have prepared onion or garlic you should wash your hands as soon as possible in cold water. Hot water has the opposite effect and makes the smell linger longer.

When cabbage is cooking it is a good idea to either put a slice of stale bread or add a little fresh lemon juice into the water. Either will stop the nasty smell from spreading around.

Chopping boards do tend to hold on to the smell of the food that has been prepared on them. Rub coarse salt on a wooden chopping board and then rinse with water or rub some bicarbonate of soda into it and then wash thoroughly with soap and water.

Vinegar is very useful to absorb a lot of smells. Keep some in a saucer on the work surface and the smell will be absorbed and not spread around the rest of the house. It would also help to get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke if people are smoking.

If you have been cooking fish in a frying pan, put in a mixture of boiling water and salt and then leave it for a while. If you frying your fish, put a couple of sticks of celery into the oil. When washing up after a fish meal, a drop of vinegar will get rid of the smell of china and a drop of mustard will clear it from cutlery.

Smells can often be trapped in the refrigerator and you must remember to clean that regularly. There are four things that you can try to get rid of them – baking soda, crumpled newspaper, cat litter or charcoal. If none of them succeed sometimes the sterilising fluid that you use in a baby’s bottle will do the trick.

Another area where smells can linger is when you have pets. They have a nasty habit of leaving their smell around even though they are not unclean animals.

In the bathroom you can light a match and let it burn out. Make sure it is completely out though before you leave. To keep the musty smell away from clothes in a wardrobe out some bath salts on the floor.

You can now invite your friends over for a meal and you house will be as pleasant as theirs.

Henry HRV200 from Numatic is arguably the most popular of the best home vacuum cleaners on sale in the U.K. so I had no problem writing a review about it for him when my friend was looking to replace his old machine.

“Henry Hoover” as he is affectionately known, despite his relatively small stature and his innocent grin, is a high performance vacuum cleaner with a 1200 watt twin flow motor which means that he is strong enough for any task you give to him.

On top of that, he can store up to 9 litre of rubbish and grime in his easy to use Microflo dust bags. In fact he is equally happy collecting tough things like sawdust and other builders remains as he is when dealing with those annoying pet hairs or simply just sucking the normal household dust from deep within a thick pile carpet.

Then you can easily switch him onto the more delicate surfaces like your wooden floors by simply turning the Hi-Lo control to low which means that there will be less suction so that your surfaces will not get damaged in any way.

You will have to get used to Henry as he will be with you for a very long time because he has engineering which is built to last and he has certainly proven that over the years. He is built from the toughest materials for both the cleaner itself as well as all the leads, hoses and other accessories. He will happily withstand all the daily bumps he is likely to get, stainless steel is the main feature here.

Inside he has a three stage system of filtration including very advanced hepa flow Microflo dust bags which can be emptied very easily.

If you are a little concerned at saving the environment he is in the forefront of technology there too as he is designed to use as little power as possible so you will not waste any energy.

Henry carries an enigmatic smile with him wherever he goes and that will pass on to your face when you see the good cleaning job he can do.

There are plenty of attachments to allow him to get into all the nooks and crannies that most vacuums cannot reach.

What you get when you buy a Henry

firstly you get Henry himself with a flexible hose which a unique rewind system which allows you to clean as far as 31.8 metres from the unit.

Henry is 6.6 kg in weight and his measurements are 340 x 340 x 370mm

there are three extension tubes to enable you to reach the higher places of any room.

two distinct brush heads, one small one to reach the awkard bits.

a crevice nozzle to get in the corners.

a special brush to clean the furniture.

a full 2 year guarantee – but you won’t need to use that

What are people saying?

, as we write there are a massive 211 reviews from customers giving him an overall score of 4.5 out of 5. Of course there are one or two who are not so happy but you cannot please everyone I always say.

Here are some comments:

This is the best vacuum cleaner on the market.

Where do I start? Henry has appeared in most shops and offices I have either worked or shopped in. I thought that that surely must mean something. I was totally right.

It’s so quiet that the cats don’t run away.

My first Henry has just died after 20 years loyal service.

Great for use in challenging environments

Dyson DC25 bagless upright multi floor vacuum cleaners tick all the boxes that my wife wanted when she asked me to review best vacuum cleaners. Read why.

My wife decided that it was about time that we took a look at new best vacuum cleaners. Our old Hoover had been going ever since we got married, I think it was a wedding present, and was just not picking up the dirt properly and also kept breaking down. It had become a bit expensive having to regularly get in carpet cleaning companies and she wanted to keep our home cleaner herself.

She asked me to get on the Internet (that’s my place…) and find out what the best vacuum cleaner was for her to buy. So I asked her what her priorities were in choosing vacuum cleaners.

She said that her number one priority was that it should be lightweight so that she could carry it up the stairs very easily and not have to call on me to do it as she usually does.

Secondly she wanted something that was easily manoeuvrable around all the furniture. W only moves it all to clean underneath once a month. Something that would work on cleaning the tiles in the kitchen as well as the carpet in the lounge would also be an asset.

She then said that the cat hairs had been difficult to get rid of with the old one as that was important for her.

Then she said that she was fed up with having to empty the bag every time we used it. I think that they also kept splitting and ended up sending out the dust as soon as she had picked it up.

So I sat at the computer and started to look for a multi floor bagless lightweight vacuum cleaner with good manoeuvrability which she could use on all surfaces and would pick up ever crumb and hair that were lying around.

Traditionally a vacuum cleaner has been built with four wheels, one at each corner. Whenever I used ours it worked great in a straight line but I was constantly having to move it back and forth to go around corners or even manually pick it up and move it to where I wanted it.

I discovered a new idea to me which was to have a ball in the middle of the machine rather than the wheels. How many times do we hear “Don’t reinvent the wheel” and yet we have put with with them on vacuums for so long. Anyway I deided that this would be a good idea for us. Of course it needs to be made of something strong to withstand all the bashing that it will get. As far as I could discover the only company with the patented ball technology is Dyson.

So I started to look at their models and came up with the
Multi Floor Lightweight Dyson Ball Upright Vacuum Cleaner.
.

It certainly has the ball but I needed to find some other benefits before I introduced it to Pam.

I soon discovered that it has a motorised brush which will make it so much easier to dig down deep and dislodge the pet hairs from the pile of the normal carpet. The good thing though was that it can be turned off over a hard floor or delicate rugs.

Dyson were also the first company to get way from using bags which means that it never clogs up or you find it full just when you want to use it urgently. When you have finished the hoovering simply take out the clear bin (clear so that you can see when it is getting near to full) and tip it in the rubbish bin or, better still, onto the compost heap. You will be helping the environment much more by doing this.

Instead of the normal suction up into a bag, this machine uses root cyclone technology which is a posh way of saying that it spins an an incredibly fast speed to force every little particle of dust out of the carpet and into the clear bin. This means that you do not get any of the loss of suction or worse still a total blockage when they get trapped in the filter or bag of a normal vacuum cleaner.

What others are saying.

I checked out the reviews on Amazon and of all the people that have bought one there over 300 have posted a review and overall they give it a score of 4 1/2 out of 5.

Here are some of their comments:

“this model is absolutely BRILLIANT“

“The DC25 is light weight, has adequate capacity and deals with all types of floor at the flick of a switch.”

“Dyson ball….. it’s the future“

“it is much lighter than my previous one and as effective“

“super product – made the carpet scream“

Well I think that I pretty much covered all the things that she said that she needed.

Carpet cleaning companies are easy to find but there are some things that we should consider before choosing one to come into our home.

Carpet cleaning companies, when searched on the web produce thirteen and a half million results. I am not suggesting in any way that every one of those is a separate company offering to keep your home cleaner but you can see how competitive a market it is.

So how do we decide, out of all those, which is the one that will be the best for us? Every different business will claim on their web page that they are the best at dirt removal.

Here are 5 tips to help you to select:-

Find out which cleaning method is right for you.Your dirt and stains can be removed from your carpets with a dry, extraction method. This involves a compound of detergents which release them and then they vacuum them up.

Another method is to apply foam to the carpet which makes it wet and has to be sucked up with a wet vacuum cleaner. If you opt for this method you can also have stronger chemicals which require a stronger suction ability.

Talk to family and friends. If any have recently had a carpet cleaning service they will be able to give you some valuable feedback.

If you can find someone by personal recommendation, it will be good. These professional carpet cleaners will be coming into your home so you need to know that they are honest and trustworthy and, indeed, professional.

Check the internet for reviews.Check out some of that vast number of pages and find the ones with reviews and testimonials from satisfied customers.

Check your local directories. In case you have a problem with the standard of work after they have left you, it is a good idea to use a carpet cleaning business which is in your area. They will then be able to come back and sort it out for you.

Check out the chemicals they use. This might be particularly important if you have pets or like to use eco friendly products. Find out how long it will be before your cat or dog can use the room after the work has been done.

The choice of chemicals must tie in with the type of carpet that you have. If the wrong chemicals are used, it can cause shrinkage which is not what you want.

It is advisable that you do not get your carpets cleaned professionally too often. It is far better to look after them all the time. Use a spot remover as soon as you spill something on your carpet or rug. It will be a lot easier to get rid of when it is freshly deposited.

Use good quality vacuums such as Oreck vacuum cleaners on a weekly basis and clean up any pet hairs in between with portable handheld vacuum cleaners.

As long as you keep the floor in a good state, professional carpet cleaning price need not be too expensive, it is when there is a lot of inground dirt that that happens. Anyway, it is a lot cheaper than having to buy a whole new carpet.

If you live with someone who has an allergy, perhaps even to dust in the air, it is even more important that these steps are taken.

Then, perhaps only once a year, get someone in with more robust carpet cleaning equipment, it will do a more thorough job. Getting one of the carpet cleaning companies in to do the work will also save you a lot of time and effort.
